Tender and Tasty; What More Could You Ask For from Owton’s?

Rump steak is usually said to have a greater flavour than sirloin steak since it’s generally larger and has a much harder texture. We recommend patting your rump steak dry, rubbing it with vegetable oil, and seasoning it on both sides with salt before cooking. When the pan is very hot, add the steak and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side for a medium-rare finish. For a more well-done result, cook for an additional minute on each side.

Rump Steak

Rump steak is a flavourful cut taken from the lower back of the cow, near the hindquarters. This cut is known for its balance of tenderness and rich, beefy flavour, making it a popular choice for grilling and BBQing. Despite being slightly firmer than more premium cuts like fillet or rib eye, rump steak’s taste and reasonable cost make it a favourite for everyday meals and weekend treats. It is best cooked quickly over high heat to retain its juices and tenderness, and it pairs well with a variety of seasonings and meat rubs.

Fancy a steak that’s full of flavour? Our Rump Steaks (2 x 225g) are a butcher’s favourite, lean, juicy and packed with deep beefy character. Cut from the rear of the animal, they’re ideal for quick, hot cooking. Bring to room temperature, season simply, and sear in a hot pan or on the grill for 2–3 minutes per side for medium-rare (aim for 55–60°C). Rest for 5 minutes before serving to keep them tender and juicy.

Serve with thick-cut chips, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms for a classic steak night, or slice thinly for steak salads, ciabattas or stir-fries. These steaks love a marinade too!
