How to Make a Sausage Casserole

This recipe is all in the meat. By purchasing high-quality sausages such as Owton’s Sausages your recipe is guaranteed to be jam-packed with flavour.

Method

  1. Heat your olive oil over medium heat in a heavy, low dish. Once the oil is hot, begin to add your Owton’s Pork Sausages, fry the sausages for around 8 – 10 minutes and make sure to brown the sausages. Once they are cooked, place them on a plate and grab your pan to be reused for the next step.
  2. Return back to your pan and add your Bacon lardons and cook for a few minutes until crisp.
  3. Add your onions to the pan and cook until they are soft and brown, slowly adding in your diced garlic, cooking for a few more minutes. 
  4. Once your onions are browned off, grab your red wine of choice and pour it into your pan, keeping a close eye as it begins to bubble.
  5. Begin to add your tomatoes, tomato puree, bay leaves, paprika, chicken stock, rosemary and honey into the pan and stir it all together slowly as it combines together making a sauce.
  6. Continue to cook your Owton’s sausages by adding them into your covered pan and bring it to medium to high heat as it slowly simmers for 15 to 20 minutes.
  7. Add your cannellini beans into your pan and cook until the sauce has begun to create a thick consistency stirring occasionally. 
  8. Remove the sauce from the heat and season lightly with salt and pepper and begin to stir in the balsamic vinegar. 
  9. Now enjoy!

Yes! If you are wanting to cook your sausages from frozen to include in your Sausage Casserole dish, then we would recommend defrosting first and then adding them to your pan to be cooked once defrosted.

    200g Bacon lardons
    3 Garlic cloves
    1 Onion
    400g Chopped tomatoes
    200 ml red wine
    1 tsp Smoked Paprika
    250 ml Chicken or Beef stock
    1 tbsp Tomato puree
    2 Bay leaves
    1 tbsp Honey
    1 tsp Rosemary
    2 x 400g Cannellini beans
